Where I am going. My Personal Story as a Proud Mother of Two Essay
Where I am going. My Personal Story as a Proud Mother of Two - Essay Example I am a year into my thirties and a proud mother of two. As a teenager, I was an ambitious young girl with high academic records and had a passion for teaching. Unfortunately, my family's financial situation made it unfeasible for me to pursue college education. However, now that I am capable of sponsoring my education by myself, I will not let my parenthood or marital status keep me from achieving my life's goals because I finally have an opportunity to fulfill my academic pursuits and now that my children are grown up enough, I can comfortably divide my time between parenting and studying. I realize that it is a long way and the way is hard and that I will probably be old by the time I reach the end of it but the end will be better than the beginning. Now that I have a motivating factor, I am capable of giving my life a direction that I want. At the same time I will have to motivate my children and help them in organizing their lives and personalities. I hope to graduate proudly with an English Honors Degree in the year 2009 although I am prepared for the fact that it might take me a little longer than that owing to my domestic responsibilities. But nevertheless, it is "better to be late than never!" One of the major concerns of college going mothers is finding the money to finance their education. Because they work full-time, receive good salaries, or hold certain assets, they may find their financial aid award is not enough to meet their needs without taking out costly student loans. Truth be told, this is the closest I've ever gotten to a college graduation. Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick but one should not let this shake one's faith. I'm convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did because my work is going to fill a large part of my life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. I am aware that life does not last forever, so I do not want to be trapped by dogma, which is living with the results of other people's thinking. I don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. Most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become and everything else is secondary. Can today's working and mothers over 25 overcome the stress and anxiety they feel when they return to a big city University, in a degree program, after years of being out of the classroom I think the stress and anxiety involved is actually necessary for mothers like me to fuel our efficiency and pushes us, but too much of it should be avoided to enable us to be successful in our endeavors. Being in most households the mother is the backbone of the family and the burden of creating family structure is always on her. Similarly, I will need to constitute new boundaries, guidelines and roles with the family, so I can focus on academics. A mental preparation is necessary in order to deter some anxieties that may occur during this transition. One must learn how to stay focus on their goal and to think positively. Careful planning is essential for a working mom returning to school, otherwise she may find that she is overexerting herself and could begin to suffer from mental and emotional pr oblems including depression and chronic anxiety. I plan to set realistic goals for myself considering I may have an abundance of tasks to complete for work and college, so it's important to limit the disruptions at work so that I won't jeopardize my employment. I see myself making use of weekend courses and extra classes and accessing libraries

According to the requirement in the file and do opinion 1 to write a 5 Essay
According to the requirement in the file and do opinion 1 to write a 5 pages paper - Essay Example Matthew Dickman, born much later than Blake, also felt that lack of joy in modern life and called the readers to ââ¬Å"scrape for itâ⬠. So what does it mean to ââ¬Å"scrape for joyâ⬠for a modern poet and a reader? The poem ââ¬Å"Slow Danceâ⬠is aimed to give indirect answer to this question as the reader has to make conclusions himself. Dickman instantly attracts reader`s attention with the title of the poem as slow dance can evoke associations in everyone who did it at least once. Slow dance is a deeply intimate and sophisticated action and a state of mind when two people get close to each other moving in a rhythm of the music. Slow dance can become a beginning of a love affair or a ritual step into marriage life. Slow dance is usually an expression of real bond between people who mean making their connection even stronger dancing a slow dance. Dickman emphasizes the fact that we desperately need this slow dance more than anything else in the world; however he implies deeper sense under this concept. The author finds accurate comparisons for this issue: Therefore, slow dance epitomizes something much bigger than a dance, an action, and a ritual. Slow dance serves as a metaphor of elusive moments of happiness in life, which are only noticed when they are over or recognized by tiny details and hues of feelings: Such slow dances remind me of a swimming or falling asleep, which are often mechanic to such an extent that you lose the sense of reality. These magic moments of leaping from conscious to unconscious with the help of natural motions and states can be achieved by anyone anytime. Dickman as one of the most sensitive poets tries to attract readers` attention to that fact, explaining that there is no need to be a poet to ââ¬Å"ride a dragonâ⬠. And slow dance is even more efficient for such leaps as it involves music: Dickman shows that the presence of a close person is one of the most mystical moments in daily life which we rarely pay attention to.

Comparing Carbohydrate Requirements for the Atkins Diet and the Food Py
Comparing Carbohydrate Requirements for the Atkins Diet and the Food Pyramid Guide ââ¬Å"Carbohydrates are an organic compound that serves as a major energy source for the bodyâ⬠(Dictionary.com). These carbohydrates convert to sugars that trigger insulin production, which our body needs for certain processes, and triggers fat storage (Health-Doc.com). According to the Institute of Medicine, adults should get 45 to 65 percent of their calories from carbohydrates. That is roughly seven servings based on a 2000 calorie diet. At least one of the two carbohydrate diet plans states something different. The Atkins diet requires a limited amount of carbohydrates for consumption while the Food Pyramid Guide developed by USDA and supported by the Department of Health and Human Services allows for many more servings. The Atkins diet requires that in the first two weeks of the diet you eat no more than twenty grams of carbohydrates a day. Twenty grams of carbohydrates a day is the equivalent of one slice of bread or one serving of carbohydrates a day. Afte...

ââ¬ÅA Child Called Itââ¬Â Reflection
child called it ââ¬Å"A Child Called Itâ⬠Reflection Jessica Budzinski Sociology 2004A Prof. S. Becker September 14, 2012 When I was presented the assignment to read the award winning novel ââ¬Å"A Child called itâ⬠by David Pelzer I had mixed feelings. I remember last semester a couple of my friends were reading the novel for their school, family, and community class. They told me about the book they had to read and how it was disturbing and some parts were unbearable to read. They revealed it was about a boy who is abused in the worst ways, and nobody does anything about it.Once receiving the book as well as the assignment I began reading it so I could have my own interpretation about the book. While reading through the novel I felt as it I was right next to David in all the situations he goes through. I felt as if I hated his manipulating mother, spineless father, and emotionless brothers just as much as David did. ââ¬Å"A Child Called Itâ⬠was extremely helpful in understanding more of what a student may be going through outside of the school environment, that may lead to negative behavior and discipline in the classroom. For example when Davidââ¬â¢s teacher first observed David stealing food from other students lunch boxes, she believed this was because of rebellion and negative behavior. What she didnââ¬â¢t know was that his mother had been denying him food for such long periods of time that his only hope for survival is to steal food from other students. This makes me think as a future educator to think twice before judging a student inside of the classroom. In some cases students just donââ¬â¢t act out to be funny or rebel, but to send out a message that they are in need of assistance inside their home.I believe that itââ¬â¢s very important to analyze how manipulating Davidââ¬â¢s mother was towards everyone around her. Davidââ¬â¢s mother is excellent at making people see David as a ââ¬Å"bad boyâ⬠so that they ag ree with her actions of not letting him play outside or having him sit in the corner as a punishment. Its unreal to me that that Davidââ¬â¢s brothers who are his own blood can walk into the bathroom and see him lying in a bathtub of ice cold water and not have a care in the world about him. Most importantly his father is an important symbol in the novel. Its obvious that towards the beginning of Davidââ¬â¢s neglection that he disagreed with the way his wife was treating David. For example, when Davidââ¬â¢s mom was in the hospital giving birth to his brother his father let him interact with her brothers and have dinner. He helped David put away the dishes after he was stabbed by this mother and forced to wash the dishes while in horrific pain. His father would also attempt to save him food and sneak it to the garage.Davidââ¬â¢s mother became aware of these actions and began fighting and arguing with her husband constantly that he began to rarely come home When he did arriv e home he was intoxicated and unable to have any contact with David. Davidââ¬â¢s father was also getting abused but in a different way, towards the middle of the novel he didnââ¬â¢t want to start an argument with his wife so he would just stay away from David and no longer give him food. Davidââ¬â¢s mother repeatedly told David and his brothers that David was no longer part of the family.Davidââ¬â¢s mother was very loving to her other children, but from a young age her actions of abusing David were seen by her other children, In the novel David talks about how his little brother would make up stories and tell their mother so they can watch David get beaten. Davidââ¬â¢s brothers also physically abused him, by kicking and hitting him. I found it interesting that at the time of this novel the people around David other then his family were not suspicious about the Pelzer family. For example on Christmas David was only allowed to receive one gift because he is no longer pa rt of the family. He received a pair of roller skates, even as a young boy he knew this gift would be used as a punishment. During the wintertime his mother forced him to skate around the neighborhood for hours, he would be wearing the same dirty thin clothes he always wore. He writes about passing his neighbors and people in cars, but they didnââ¬â¢t even think twice about this action. David tells us that he was starved for a ten-day period and had no choice but to go door to door and ask for food. The people he asked either said no or handed him a sandwich not even wondering why he was knocking on their door for food and not going home.If this were to happen in todayââ¬â¢s society people would be suspicious and ask the boy questions. The teachers in the school would wonder why he came to school with the same clothes, missing teeth, broken bones, and starving. David presented the topic that was rarely discussed in his time. He presented the ugly side of amoral society; the one in which nobody cares about the problems of others. Its incredible to see the change in the way America handles child abuse but its also heart wrenching to think of the children who were neglected and abused during the times America was not as active.I found it baffling that after being stabbed, burnt, forced to eat his brothers feces, choked, and forced to breath a mixture of ammonia and bleach that David was still true to his mother. He always completed him chores making sure nothing was under perfection; he walked on eggshells around the house, and never told the truth about his abuse. Itââ¬â¢s obvious that the reasoning of this is because if he disobeyed his mother he would receive a worsened punishment. When he scrimmaged through the garbage can and ate the remains of his familyââ¬â¢s dinner his mother forced him to vomit and found the food he had consumed. He then received a punishment of sitting in the bathroom for hours with a bucket of ammonia and bleach till he almos t passed out. Its devastating to know that this young boy felt so alone that he couldnââ¬â¢t tell his friends, neighbors, or teachers outside of his home. I hope that as a teacher if a student in my classroom is being abused they will be open and express their emotions to others or me in my school so that we can help them. The title of the book is truly reflective as the survival of the boy required real courage. The fact that his mother refereed to him by ââ¬Å"Itâ⬠symbolizes that she was blinded by sadism without realizing or comprehending her actions because of her alcohol addiction. Dave Pelzerââ¬â¢s book ââ¬Å"A Child Called itâ⬠was not at all a difficult book to read, but the knowledge was quite disturbing and emotional, especially knowing that this actually took place in the United States. I would suggest to anyone thatââ¬â¢s planning on pursuing a career in education or as a social worker to read this book. This will help develop a better understanding for students and their needs.

How the Discoveries and Culture of the Renaissance have...
The renaissance was a time of intellectual development, with a new focus on humanism, and an abandonment of the prevailing church ideals, with this newfound appreciation on human potential, and scientific discovery shaped the time, and belief structure. In addition, this was the time where one might encounter, one or several of these remarkable talented Renaissance individuals, which ranged from artisans, to scientists, sculptors, philosophers, painters, and poets. It would have been exciting seeing them bustling around in a day to day environment, I could only imagine, walking into the Vatican and viewing Michelangelo at work painting the Sistine chapel. The sheer scope of and monumentality of this undertaking was truly enormous task, at over 5500 sq. ft. This was the culmination of the ambitions of, Pope Julius II, and the aspirations of Michelangelo himself. Working from scaffolds over 70, Ft. high above the floor, was physically daunting, the angels and height alone were an u ndertaking unto themselves. I am in awe at the talent and ingenuity used to create such a beautiful piece of artwork. The result was truly a spectacular work of art. The photos are even remarkable, and wonderful to view. The Renaissance brought about no shortage of amazing individuals. Giotto, Donatello, Durer, and Leonardo Da Vinci to name just a few. Social Medias Impact On The Lives Of Teenagers And Young Adults - Free Essay Example
Sample details Pages: 3 Words: 769 Downloads: 5 Date added: 2019/04/10 Category Society Essay Level High school Topics: Social Media Essay Did you like this example? Almost everyone in the world has a device that they take everywhere they go. These little things we carry may be destroying society as we know it. The things we use to contact people are causing so many problems in todays age. Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Social Medias Impact On The Lives Of Teenagers And Young Adults" essay for you Create order Most teens are using these 24/7, and it is causing our family time to be taken away, addiction, cyberbullying, and lack of socialization. There have been countless suicides of young teenagers today. Most of this leads back to one thing, cyberbullying. About 1.2 million kids a year drop out of school or skip class due to cyberbullying/ bullying. It is a huge problem in todays school. Their parentals not checking what they say on their devices and just simply not caring. It gives the child free range of what they can say or do to anyone, no matter what age. We hear cases of young pre-teens and teens around the ages of 12-16 commiting suicide due to the words of others and how they impact their lives. 5.4 million kids are harassed or bullied online. If you do not commit suicide it usually results in severe depression or anxiety. They usually get social anxiety and they think they have to say the right things and be the right way for them not to be bullied. People get bullied for the way they the way they dress, how heavy or skinny they are, their eye and hair color, and if they wear makeup or not. Therefore people try to change themselves to fit in with everyone else. It can also cause stress, not just stress with school, but stress about changing ourselves to be fit in and be like others. All the stress and pain often leads kids to alcohol and drug abuse. Which leads them to a life in jail, and then their whole lives have been wasted, because of some hurtful and crucial words that the popular girls said in middle school and high school. Instead of drug and alcohol abuse others may question their self-value. They question their worth in life, and if they belong or even should be on the Earth. Teens think that their physical appe arance is all they have and not personality or any other factors. If they dont have friends at school, they result to online friends. Teenagers dont know the dangers of talking to someone they dont know on their devices. Online friends lead to kidnapping if they go to see them in real life. How parents try to prevent it is by trying to enhance their privacy settings, but the kids just find a way around it, just to talk to someone they dont even know. There are only 10% of kids who meet their online friends and 75% of those kids are kidnapped. They arent usually talking to real kids their age, they are talking to child predators. Not in all cases though, some actually have real internet friends who are actually who they say they are. They talk to these people on social media. Social media is being used for all the wrong reasons, instead of posting pictures and talking to friends, they upload mean things, and manipulate people into sending them things that they should not do. The so called popular kids pressure the not so popular kids into thinking they have to have all of these social media apps, and they will be co ol enough to hang out with them and be friends. They also make them think they have to be the perfect person, when in reality no one at school not even the popular kids are as perfect as they think they are. Todays society makes young women think that they have to have big breasts, a big bottom, have a certain eye color, expensive name brand clothing, they have to be skinny, have to be popular, and have to wear makeup to look decent enough to leave their house. When none of this is true, and girls should just be themselves, but the media is so convincing, that they get plastic surgery, contacts, rack up enough money to buy good clothes, starve themselves, and try to fit in, to be good enough for everyone. Everyone makes it look like their lives are picture perfect, when no one posts their bad days. Their feed has to be pleasing to the eye, instead of the true lives they live, only the good moments never the cruel days that everyone goes through. They do this to win the popularity contest of life. Posting non-stop just refreshing your feed will lead to addiction, which is a big problem for todays age.
